The Clarion Content and Warner & Company, the filmmakers behind our Spoken Word documentary, “Truth Underground,” are delighted that The Carrack and its Director, Laura Ritchie, invited us to be part of the week of their community show and two year anniversary celebration. The Carrack is a venue that welcomes both spoken word and communitarian projects in general. There will be live spoken word poetry performances and a special screening of the film’s trailer, as well as, an opportunity to meet the film’s director, Gerret Warner, and some of the poets one-on-one.
This film is about the Spoken Word poetry culture in the local area. It follows three area poets through a year in words. Spoken word is not an esoteric exercise in theory for these young people, it is an everyday intimate part of their lives, an emotional outlet, a release valve, a statement space that they fill with vibrant, dynamic challenges that resonate with all who hear them deliver those verses in public.
This Thursday night, June 13th, at 8pm, live performances. Come hear the word spoken in person. It will move you.
The Carrack is donation supported, non-profit space, located above Loaf Bakery at #111 West Parrish Street, Durham, 27701.
