Bull City in the Mix:
A New Mixtape Series

created by Justin Laidlaw

from the Clarion Content and Jess Dilday

Mixtapes are sonic anthologies capable of transmitting ideas and emotions, expressing social and collective identities, and telling a story through the selection and sequence of featured musical selections.

The mixtape medium has a rich history yet remains relevant today. Check out the Mixtape Museum for more info on the art of the mixtape.

Clarion Content is inviting all Durham-based artists to submit their mixes for our new Mixtape Series. The mix can feature any genre(s) of music and style of production, and should be accompanied by a short explanation of the motivation and vision behind its creation. These mixes can be a compilation of the artist or group’s own tracks or they can be in the form of a DJ mix. The only requirement is that the mix be at least 20 minutes long and no longer than 60 minutes, submitted in .mp3 format (no need to submit an actual tape but you win mad bonus points if you do – just submit it to us digitally as well). The accompanying material may include both text and multimedia (audio/video footage or YouTube clips, for example). Please include your bio and any social media/promotional links with your mix submissions. The deadline for submissions is August 1st, 2015 and should be sent to jadilday@gmail.com.

A panel of judges (TBA) will listen to each mix and favorites will win prizes such as free admission to the next Party Illegal and gift certificates for delicious food and retail items from local businesses. Along with receiving prizes, the top mixes will be featured on Clarion Content’s website, Mixcloud and shared across all of our social media networks. We look forward to featuring and promoting the mixes of local hip hop artists, DJs, bands and more!
