Mel Hunt 7 tiny offerings

This week the Clarion Content talked with Mel Hunt a yoga practitioner and instructor in Durham. Her new book “7 Tiny Offerings: Handpicked Blessings for the Human Heart” is a small gift, for all of us, for the times when as she says “we feel lost or disconnected, when we need to remember our selves.”

There is going to be an event in support of 7 Tiny Offerings at The Makery, from 6pm-8pm on Thursday, July 23rd with Sang-Ha Teahouse, and a talk by Mel Hunt with Q&A, plus a short practice.

Part II

Mel Hunt tells us some more about the book and the process in her own words.

Have you ever doubted you could actually do the work that you set out to do and wondered if it would be easier to do something safer? Not that anything is ever certain, but these are the moments I question my sanity in leaving the comparative security of my old corporate life, even though I haven’t had the urge to go back.

This spring, two-thirds of the way through an intense year of schooling in bodywork, with a computer and apartment littered with the detritus of unfinished projects, I was longing for a small win. I needed to know I could still finish something. And though nothing beats the satisfaction of watching clients connect with themselves in new ways, I wanted something tangible, to hold in my hands. My heart wanted to make something small, for all of us, for all the times we feel lost or disconnected, when we need to remember our selves. Something simple and sweet I could place into your hands, a tool to share the simple practices that inform everything I do. And I didn’t think I could do it.

It would be easy, now that it exists, to say ‘I made you something,’ to introduce it without any of the back story – but the back story is what built it. Our human experience is what connects us. The feeling of the thing matters.
