Tomorrow at MotorCo join Against Me and other opponents of NC HB2 in an evening of dialogue where all are welcome. Although the show is sold out, there will be promises to be plenty of activity, before and afterward, outside the venue.
Supporters have told the Clarion Content to expect subversive graphic art, opportunities to get your body painted, a voter registration drive and more. Against Me frontperson, Laura Jane Grace, is a leader of the transgender rights movement. Grace is a believer in social action. This event is a call to action.
There will be opportunities to connect with local LBGTQ organizations who will be tabling.
Within the musical community, Grace is known for hardcore. MotorCo’s preview refers to Against Me as a “driving force” in the punk scene.
According our source, Grace has adopted radical positions: hardcore positions that allow for ownership of former slurs like “Tranny” in a manner similar to which A Tribe called Quest once co-opted the word “Nigga” on behalf of the community, erudite positions, the kind that encourage discussions of Aristophanes theories on Love and gender.
The show, tomorrow night at MotorCo at 8pm, is sold out. But events outside at Parts and Labor are free and open to the public. It is sure to be a powerful, moving, gathering.
