that Durham restauranteur Mattie Beason is opening a permanent food truck barn in Lakewood.

We’ve heard…

that (in a not unrelated note) the era of food trucks on Rigsbee by MotorCo and Fullsteam Brewery is over. Fullsteam is expanding their building and their food offerings. No more food trucks will be allowed parking out in front.

We’ve heard…

that the Pie Pushers ran the very same menu their last night as they did there first night so many years earlier.

We’ve heard…

that the Parts and Labor menu is changing. (ed. note: Bring back Chicken in a Waffle cone!)

We’ve heard…

that Keep Durham Beautiful’s East Durham Urban Canopy Renewal project is going to plant 100 trees on November 18th.

that LiLa has been shooting new music videos in New York City.

that the Thunder Thighs video has a Durham connection.

that the Brodie-Duke Beltline, an 18 acre urban Durham park that we have been telling you about for years, is inching closer to becoming a reality.

that the conversion of the former Duke Diet and Fitness Center on Trinity Avenue to a natural stormwater rentention and wildlife area is about to start.

that the Durham County is paying a subcontractor, Tyler Technologies, to take photos of 93,000 parcels of land, eg. homes and business in Durham. Big Brother, errr, the County wants to make this part of their “property data validation process”. —“So we can tax you all the better, dear citizen.”

that the new portable tables and chairs in Major the Bull’s Plaza, in front of the Unscripted Hotel, are a huge hit.

the same thing about the new tables and chairs in Chicken Bone Park.

We’ve heard…

that the City of Durham has more than doubled the money being made available for street resurfacing and paving.

that Big C Waffles is opening in the old Doghouse spot by 54/55.

that there is Durham Mural Crew of middle shool interns painting murals on Durham traffic signal boxes.

that the City of Durham has a new pedestrian traffic signal to help assist folks trying to cross mid-block on busy roads like Guess Road and Duke Street.

that the DPAC is renovating and upgrading.

that the Quarterhorse bar and arcade opened on Mangum Street.

that there is a huge send-off party being staged for Mayor Bell in the old Durham Ballpark.

that there is a “Make Waves not War” Party every Saturday at the pool at the Unscripted Hotel.

that Dolly’s Vintage changed hands.

that the Artisian Marke opened in the old Palms Restaurant location on East Chapel Hill Street next to the former Durty Durham Studio.

that Alivia’s on Main Street closed and was re-opened as a new concept.

that the Ethiopian restaurant just up the block is now open.

that Pinch Loco kebabs is coming to the 9th Street area.

that the new condos, the Mangum Flats, are going up quick.

that the Southbank building is coming down, and the new building will be taller than One City Center and immediately become the new tallest building Durham.

 

One thing we haven’t heard about recently…

that camera that was trained on the One City Center site during construction. Where are the time lapse photo movies of that??

We’ve heard…

that all of the condos in One City Center have sold.

We’ve heard…

that Robert Downey, Jr. bought one of the condos in One City Center.

We’ve heard…

that part of Ironman IV will be filmed in Durham. (this one, we only heard from one person, but it’d be cool, right??)
